So Halloween has been and gone and I didn't take part in any of the festivities 😭
The last time I got dressed up for Halloween was 6 years ago, so to be honest, I can't really say I was too bothered!
Fancy dress is not my favourite thing to do, you have to go to a load of effort on an outfit you will probably look like a sack of crap in, spend a fortune on it and never wear it again. Even though you keep it thinking "yeah I will wear that again", but another fancy dress event comes up and you think "no way am I wearing what I wore last time!"
Anyway, as I hadn't took part in fancy dress for a very long time I was quite excited to get dressed up for a friends surprise 30th birthday party. I looked online for inspiration..

I don't want to go as Mrs shrek! I might be a fat lass but I still want to look sexy, well as sexy as I can with all the junk in my trunk 😆
To be fair there were a lot of other options available but I had less than a week to go before the party (super organised as usual!) So I didn't want to risk waiting for outfits that might come the night before, for them to look cheap and nasty, and possibly difficult to return.
So I went on ye olde faithful ASOS which has always had my back. I paid £10 earlier in the year for free next day delivery on all my orders for a full year. This has been a blessing and a bank raper at the same time, but really it is sooo worth it!
I ordered 3 different dresses with 3 different costumes in mind (apologies for the clip of me in these photos, I was trying them on after I had just got out of the bath and I always send pictures of new clothes to my pal for opinions. I generally pull faces and give her the peace V's just to mix it up a bit, we're wild 😆).

Option 1, Greek Goddess
I didn't go for the Greek goddess outfit as the dress was more of a shimmering silver than white so it would have been a reach to claim that it was a lady toga! The dress was a bargain at only £21.00 I did nearly keep it just for a night out but it was a little bit clingy and I reminded myself that it's nearly Christmas and I spend too much money!
Option 2, 70's Style
Now when I ordered these dresses I was sure that this would be my favourite. The dress was the perfect length as just past the knee is my favourite of all the lengths (😆) it had sleeves, it was a-line and colourful, it ticked all of my boxes! Plus I would have accessorised with a fro and sunglasses to reincarnate Queen bee herself, Miss Foxy Cleopatra (that's Beyoncé in Austin powers for anyone with poor film knowledge 😉) but unfortunately, I just didn't love the dress like I thought I would!
It was a bit too big and it shouldn't put you off but as most clothes are when you order online, they can arrive creased and I wasn't going to iron this just to try on...Who am I kidding, to be honest, I don't even own an iron. If something is creased and I can get away with it I just use my straighteners. If it really needs ironed I take it to my grandmas for her to iron. By the way, yes I am 28 😆
But anyway! I just couldn't picture looking like a Foxy Cleopatra in the baggy creased dress!

Option 3, Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner
Now this was the dress that I thought would definitely go back, but as soon as I slipped into this amazing green velvet number I was sold. It's figure hugging, it shows a bit boob and a bit legs...but not too much 😝 (you've got to leave somethings to the imagination!) and did I mention IT WAS VELVET 😍😍
So my mind was made up on the base of the outfit I just had to construct the rest of what would be my version of Poison Ivy...

Hair
I ordered this amazing red wig from amazon, it was only £13.90 and the quality is fantastic. I was nervous waiting for the parcel to arrive as I thought it would be thin and chatty looking but it really was as good as it looks on the pictures!
Eyebrows
Next up was the brows that Uma Thurman made famous in the Batman movie. After googling lots and lots and LOTS of poison ivy images I decided on the whole look I wanted to recreate.
I am not a crafty person at all so it took a lot for me to make my own version of these brows.
I went to hobbycraft, a shop I never ever visit, and found a sheet of green foam and some glitter glue.
Right, I'm sorted.
I'll cut out the shapes, bash some glitter on and I'm done.
Then I went to Poundland and found green spangly wrapping paper, now this could be useful and it's only £1 so I bought it.
I took all my crafty swag to my grandmas house because she has glue and shit, she used to be a teacher so she has all sorts of crap that I thought could be useful...plus I sort of thought she could just take over and do it for me 😏
Gutted for me I went round and she was going out 😱😱 so I was left to my own devices to create these brows with some foam, wrapping paper and glitter glue.
I must have been creative in a previous life because I managed to draw a stencil, loosely copying what I'd found online.
Then I used the glitter glue to stick the wrapping paper to the foam and traced my stencil on the back to cut out.
The edges looked a bit messy so I went round them with the glitter glue which ended up looking quite effective in the end!
I've got to say, I was super duper impressed with myself and if I ever lose my job...I think I know what I'll be doing instead (making green eyebrows...I'm sure there will be loads of money in that 🤑🤑).

Now all I needed to do was stick them to my face 😨😨 I bought a big pot of eyelure eyelash glue and did a practice with one of my first cutout attempts. It stuck straight away and wasn't going to budge, bloody champion I thought, now I just need to try out the makeup!
Awful picture of the practice 😂
I used yellow, orange and red eyeshadow.
Yellow below the brow,
Orange at the crease of my eye,
Red on the lid and blended together with a soft eyeshadow brush.
I also used a liner brush to add a bright purple eyeshadow below my lower lashes.
For the lips I didn't have any green lipstick so I just used a green eye pencil to line my lips, white pencil in the middle for a bit of an ombré effect. I used a clear lipgloss to blend this together and then applied some dark green eyeshadow to darken it up.

The Finished Look
So this is the finished look and also a cheeky look at my gorgeous pal looking very innocent as a beautiful angel.
We had a bottle of wine between us before we went to the party as we were getting ready, who doesn't love a pre-drink?
On this occasion I think it was also a little Dutch courage as we hadn't done fancy dress in such a long time, we were a bit anxious about going...and we had a good mind to be...

Disaster! 😱
So we get to the pub and the party is upstairs in the function room so the first anxiety is hitting us as we walk through a busy bar of regular bar goers who were ALL staring.
We arrived at the party around the same time as the birthday boy was due to arrive so the room was quiet before we entered. When we walked through the door everyone was standing poised for the guys birthday, ready to shout surprise with party poppers the lot. I don't know who was more shocked, us or them because not one other person was in fancy dress 😳😳
Well we felt like right dickheads! Turn up to a party in fancy dress where not another soul is dressed up! I wanted the ground to swallow me up!
Don't get me wrong we looked mint, I loved my costume and our little crew of 8 all looked fantastic, it just would have been better if everyone else was in fancy dress too!
The plus side to this embarrassment was that we got absolutely hammered so very quickly as that was the only way we would get through it! 4 bottles of wine in 1 hour between 4 girls and copious amounts of sambuca shots did the trick!
All in all it was a brilliant, very drunken night which we all suffered for the next day. But it's a bloody good story!
"Remember that time we went to a fancy dress party that wasn't a fancy dress party?" 😆😆
Absolutely Fabulous 😘
