Sometimes it's the little things in life that make your day. For example, I was at my grandmas for tea the other day and I'm currently following the weight watchers diet (only Monday to Friday, I can't be eating lettuce and apples on a weekend).
So it was chicken casserole and veg for tea and I was about 3/4's through the plate with a few boiled potatoes, cauliflower and some chicken to get through, but I started to feel full 😱
Now this is not something that happens all too often and on the rare occasion that it does I still manage to power through the fullness. But for some reason I just knew I wasn't going to finish this meal.
Because I'm such a foodie and sensible 😏, I started to eat the rest of the chicken, if I was going to leave anything it certainly wasn't going to be meat!
So I struggled through the rest of the chicken and left the few potatoes and a sprig of cauliflower...
My grandma looks at my plate, then she looks at me and this is how the conversation went,
Gran: "are you finished?"
Me: "yeah, I'm full"
Gran: "was there something wrong with the potatoes?"
Me: "no no, I'm just full"
Gran: "did you not like them?"
Me: "no, honestly, I'm just full"
Gran: "are you not feeling very well?"
Me: "grandma, I'm fine, I'm just full!"
Gran: *looks like she's about to fall out of her chair*
My grandad walks into the room, looks at the plate of food
Grandad: "what's going on here then?" (As he points to the plate)
Me: "nothing"
Grandad: "well what's wrong with your tea?"
Me: "nothing!!! I'm just full!!"
Grandad: "ooh, are you not well?"
Me: "NO IM JUST FULL!"
Grandad looks at grandma concerned, like neither of them knew what to do or say. Then grandad looks back at me and says,
"Well I'm not going to let it go to waste" and proceeded to finish my meal. I think I know where I get my greed from 😀
Now you might be thinking, well how has this made your day? It sounds more irritating than anything!
But for my entire life, I can't recall a time when I didn't finish a meal. Even if I'm stuffed to my neck with food, so help me god I will finish it! 🐷
The reaction I got from my grandparents made me realise just how momentous this occasion was. I got home and started to think to myself,
oh my god, am I not well?
No, I feel ok.
Were the potatoes not nice?
No, they were the same, just plain old boring boiled potatoes..
Then I thought, it's this diet, it's bloody weight watchers! My stomach must have shrunk and the diet is working!! 😁👏🏼👏🏼
So that put me on cloud 9! I'm dancing round the living room, throwing shapes about like an infant school maths teacher, at the thought that I'm gonna be 4 stone lighter by Christmas 😆
I'm delusional 🙃

Get to the point!
So, another example of the little things that cheer me up or make me feel better is when I get a bit of a pamper. My favourite pamper that I always make a regular thing, is getting my nails done.
In the past I used to only get my nails done for special occasions like a holiday or a big night out. Then when they started to grow off I would do the worst thing possible, I would bite and chew them off 😱
The aftermath was truly shocking as I would be left with paper thin nails that were all ridged and stumpy. I tried to paint over them but there would be lumps and bumps and they just never looked nice.
It would then take a good few month before they would go back to normal and usually by that time there was another event coming up that would spark the need for a new set of nails and I would go through the cycle again 🙄
This was all my own doing as all I had to do was go back to the salon and get them taken off, or I could have soaked my nails in acetone but it just takes so long and it didn't seem important enough to take the time.

When everything changed 👍🏻
I was out for dinner with my husband and I went to pick up a slice of pizza and I couldn't even concentrate on the beautiful food as I was too busy looking at my shabby chipped nail varnish thinking what the f*** are you doing with your life...now that's a bit extreme I know, but if it's distracting me from a delicious pepperoni pizza then it's a big bloody problem! It had been so long since I had my nails done and I just thought do you know what, I'm gonna treat myself, I've got no where to be and no one to show these nails off to, but I'm going to get them done!
It was a Monday and the girl I usually went to didn't work that day (panic stations!) because once I had it in my head that I wanted them done, I needed them done like straight away! You know when you think about something for a while and don't do it, then you decide you definitely want it and you want it like yesterday? Well that was me, I was on a mission!
I remembered driving past a new nail bar on Low Fell about a week previous and thought I would see if they could squeeze me in.
I found their Facebook page and sent a message asking for an appointment and they fit me in for later that day. This was when the life of my nails changed forever...enter Baybay's Nails & Beauty...

It was so welcoming from the minute I walked in and I was sat straight down to get started. Already I felt like my life was back on track! This is what the shop looks like inside..
It's a great layout as all of the customers and staff can have a natter together, it's especially great if you're nosey like me! I walked away with a fountain of knowledge of the goings on in the local area, who's sleeping with who, who's separated from who, the real reason why that shop closed down, aww I know it all! 😆
But really though it was a warm and friendly environment and the perfect place to get away from the husband for an hour 😉
There is only one problem I had the first time I went and every other time after, and that was choosing a colour/design from all of the millions of choice! Just look at how much there is!!!!

And that's not even all of them! Luckily you have the lovely staff who are so good at their job and can always help you decipher what colour is best for you. Here is a couple of pictures of nails I've had from Baybay's over the last 6 months..
But isn't it expensive to upkeep?
No it's actually not!! So one of the reasons I never used to get my nails done regularly is because I couldn't afford nearly £30 every 3-4 weeks, I couldn't justify it!
What I hadn't realised was that I didn't actually have to get a brand new set of nails every time, I never new what infills were!
So for anyone else that is not in the know, I'll explain!

Infills
Your acrylic nails will start to grow off and in my experience you want to go and get them infilled every 3-4 weeks (I have been known to leave mine 5 weeks as Baybay does such an amazing job, they are practically indestructible).
The nail technician uses a machine to shave down the top of the nail to take the polish and the top layer of acrylic off, leaving you with something like this..

They file the nails down if you want them a bit shorter than the length they had grown to and apply a fresh layer of acrylic over the top. They buff and shape your nail just like when you first had them done and paint them whatever colour/design you like, easy peasy!
I paid £25 for a new set of acrylic nails but infills are only £15! It depends on how well you look after your nails as to how many times you can get them infilled, I think the longest stint of infills I have had is 5 in a row, but to me it feels like a new set of nails every time and at £15 I'm not complaining!
Another thing Baybay has is a loyalty card which gives you extra savings every 3 visits which is amazing as who doesn't love extra discount? 😍

There have been so many times in the past when I have spent ages filing and painting my nails myself but it always ends up being a disaster as I make a total mess and they just chip straight away anyway!
Or on the rare occasion that I did a good job of painting my nails, I would try ever so hard to not smudge them but it was inevitable they would get knocked 😡😡
I just think for the stress and hassle of trying to make my nails look nice myself, it is so worth spending the penny's to get them done professionally, especially now that I have Baybay and the team who do such an amazing job!
It might sound daft to some people that having your nails done can cheer you up but when half your hair is snapped, you've got a break out in spots, you followed your diet all week (bar Saturday and Sunday) and you put 2 bastard pound on...sometimes looking at your pretty nails can take the edge off 😊💅🏼💅🏼
